Background
International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 501, AFL-CIO was formed in 1953 by the merger of several regional locals. Local 501 has grown to one of the largest Stationary Engineer Locals in the entire United States. Over the decades the Local has established itself as a pillar of highly trained, multi-skilled trade unionists throughout the Labor community. The type of work the members perform is Maintenance and Repair of all HVAC equipment, Boiler Operation, Electrical, Plumbing, Welding, or in general, all trade related maintenance and repair. The Local takes pride in not only representing a diverse group of individuals, but also helping that group continue to advance its skills through training and acquiring the knowledge necessary to advance through their career.
Local 501 represents workers in southern California and southern Nevada, including over 2,000 casino workers in the city of Las Vegas.
